Before we get to the re-cap, let’s fore-cap…This Thursday, lovely Liza from Mutual will be here to taste, but she will be bringing some big shots with her. She will be tasting us on Childress wines, from right here in the Tarheel State. We have never – repeat, never – had a tasting featuring NC wines, so it should be interesting.
Anyone is a fan of NASCAR is familiar with Richard Childress, who is into more than just left turns at great speeds. He and partner Greg Johns started making wines in 2004, with the aid of longtime winemaker Mark Friszolowski, who pioneered the New York winemaking movement and has 20+ years of wnemaking experience. As importantly, their fruit is all fromthis state, with up to 90% grown on their estate, and the remainder sourced from other NC growers. These wines have garnered over 150 awards, so come in and judge for yourself.
OK, back to last week. Lee, from Ocean South, tasted us on a variety of wines, including a killer Shiraz from Down Under, along with some Chilean wines and a lovely Malbec from Argentina.
Friday, Jeremy returned to serenade our dinner crowd, and Saturday, Mickey Miller energized the crowd with some great guitar and vocals. It turned into an old Fashioned sing-a-long, as Mickey played some classic rock, and we had a roomful of Boomers. From Florida, he is one of the many musicians who have walked into our shop and asked if they could play. We happened to have an opening, so we said, “sure.” And he was great.
Speaking of which, the young man who will be playing this Friday and Saturday is a similar story. Walked in and asked to play, and Joel suggested he come by and audition. So, during Sunday football, while people were eating my white bean chili and drinking discounted beer, he ripped out some really great sounding blues. His style really fits our atmosphere, and we are excited to have him playing this weekend.
Also, for those of you who enjoyed it some much, Chef Ed is bringing back his Shrimp special this weekend. You loved it before, you will love it again! I am also thinking about doing the chili one more time this Sunday, as we have sold out of it two weeks in a row.
I’m sure I could come up with more to say, but I am cooking today, and we have actually had a good lunch crowd for a Monday, so I have to get back in the kitchen and get some prep work done, so Theresa is not pissed at me when she comes in tomorrow (as it is my one day off!).
So, the beach is beautiful, the weather is still fantastic, the wine is plentiful and the beer is cold…and don’t forget the food…make a point of coming down to The Treehouse Bistro, and letting the 2 Wine Guys @ The Grind pour you a glass and fix you a plate!
