This has long been my favorite Cab. And each time I drink it, I am reminded why it is my favorite. Sure, we have other, more expensive Cabs on our racks, but none get my palate watering like old Bob. And, year after year, Robert Craig is a reliable example of what a Napa Cab should taste like.
Blended with merlot, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, this combination produces rich fruit, bold but structured tannins, herbal notes and a great finish. Full of cocoa and black cherries, this is a steak-on-the-grill wine, but it is also excellent for cracking open and sipping around the table with friends. And they will know they are friends when you share this wine with them…and good friends at that.
I have loved this Cab for years, and just recently opened the ’06 on a slow day; just to see if it held up to my sweet memory. Sure enough, it was every bit as delicious as I remembered, and, once again, reminded me why it is my favorite. Consistent, delicious, bold, round, balanced…delicious. Did I say that already? Yes, I know, but it is that good…year after year.
It is a special occasion wine, because of the price point, but it will also make any occasion special. So, if you have the hankering for a good Cab, check it out!
