I am not saying we have served a lot of flatbreads this week, but I have made more dough than an entire village of women in northern Italy!
Well, maybe not that much, but it sure seems like a lot. Our Chef’s famous Steakhouse Flatbread was the culprit, as we have been running it as a special. London Broil, red onions, roasted red peppers and blue cheese, drizzled with balsamic when it comes out of the oven. Tastes just like a steak in a great restaurant, and, needless to say, it has gone over real well.
Thursday’s tasting was hosted by Amanda May, from Juice, and her wines were all gone well before the tasting was over, so we had to bring out some stock to taste. In fact, we went through so much white wine we practically ran out of everything we carry (and even a few wines we don’t). Fortunately, deliveries came in on Friday and we were back in the wine business for the weekend.
Of course, wine business was only part of it, as lunch and dinner crowds were great all weekend. This food thing may just work. Although, Joel has made a point of saying he is the looks and I am the brains. Lately, though, he has said I was just smart enough to recognize a good idea, but just dumb enough to implement it!
I don’t know how many hours we are working to make it all happen, but it sure seems like a lot. There is no room to put a cot now that we have opened up our retail wine space, and the floor is too hard, so we do go home just long enough to sleep for a couple hours before coming back in and doing it all over again. I guess we just decided we weren’t busy enough, but we seem to be now!
This week, we had some vendors come in to taste, and probably hit about 20 wines. I would really have to look at my notes to determine just how many, and I don’t know where they all are right now, so I will just hazard that guess. Let’s just say it was more than ten, but less than 100. Somewhere in there. And that includes Jeremy coming in today, which explains the tardiness of this email.
The gentleman who came in with Jeremy made a profound statement that I am obligated to share with you: “Burgundy makes you thing naughty things, Bordeaux makes you discuss them, and Champagne makes you do them.”
Yum!
Anyway, our girl Choice Spice (a.k.a. Kristin) will be doing this week’s tasting, and will feature some really interesting wines, so don’t miss it (and get there early, if you want to taste everything). We should have some interesting music this weekend, with newish people (or people we haven’t heard together) playing Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, we have a jewelry show from 5-7 p.m., featuring local costume jewelry artists, with “designer inspired costume jewelry” for show and sale.
So, there you go, that should be enough for now. Make it a point to come on down to the Treehouse Bistro and let the 2 Wine Guys @ The Grind pour you a glass and fix you a plate.
